Employment Opportunities
Position: Foster Care Providers
Being a foster care provider is a great way to help families and make a difference in the life of a child. St. David's is currently recruiting for three different service options related to foster care.
Respite Foster Care placements are typically short-term periods of time, generally 24 to 48 hours, and are usually provided on the weekends. Respite is a unique program that offers parents/primary caregivers a temporary break from the everyday demands of raising a child with special needs.
Therapeutic Foster Care placements are referred by County Child Protection for children between the ages of 0-12 who have been removed from their home and generally have a physical, mental, emotional and /or medical diagnosis. They are typically 24/7 care, with placement stays ranging from 3 months to 1 year.
Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC) is an evidence-based, cost-effective alternative to institutional and residential treatment interventions for children 7 to 11 years of age with significant behavioral and mental health issues. It is a multifaceted treatment approach that includes time-limited foster care (6 to 12 months), family therapy for the child's family/caregiver, and individual skill building for the child. In this program, there will only be one foster child in the home at any given time.
Qualifications
St. David's invites individuals, couples, and families to explore the rewards of becoming a licensed Foster Care Provider. For Therapeutic Foster Care we are in great need of homes willing to take sibling groups and Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) homes that are eligible to take Native American children, as well as anyone skilled in working with adolescents with challenging behaviors.
All Foster Care Providers must meet the qualifications set up by Minnesota statutes which govern Foster Care Licensing.
Respite Foster Care Providers must have an initial 12 hours of training, with another 12 hours completed annually; be certified in CPR and First Aid, and must have experience directly related to caring for children or adults with special needs. Other requirements may be added for specific clients.
Therapeutic Foster Care Providers must have an initial 30 hours of training, with another 30 hours completed annually; be certified in CPR and First Aid, CPI, Car Seat Restraint Training, SIDS/Shaken Baby Training and must have experience directly related to caring for children with special needs. Other requirements may be added for specific children.
Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care Providers must have 32 hours of training, with another 32 hours completed annually and be certified in CPR and First Aid and Car Seat Restraint Training. Foster care providers will also need to meet weekly in a foster parents group. Providers must be at least 21 years of age.
- Additional training may be required for specific children / clients.
