Early Childhood Outreach and Consultation

What is Early Childhood Outreach and Consultation (ECOC)?
Many childcare centers in our community, while committed to the development of all children in their care, are
particularly challenged in addressing daily behavior issues of an increasing number of distressed children.
The Early Childhood Outreach and Consultation Program partners with centers facing behavioral and emotional challenges
in the children they serve to build the capacity of staff and create a supportive learning environment for children and families.
ECOC consultants provide support through:
- Observing individual children and group dynamics in the classroom
- Consulting with teachers individually and in groups
- Training staff on topics related to early childhood mental health
- Facilitating communication between the staff and parents
- Providing families with referrals to additional services
- Implementing therapeutic playgroups to enhance the child's individual and group function in the classroom
Desired outcomes of the ECOC program:
- Improve day-to-day functioning of all children in the classroom
- Enhance capacity of childcare staff to meet the needs of highly distressed children
- Improve systems of communication and collaboration between parents, childcare providers, and children.
How is ECOC funded?
ECOC services are grant-funded and free of charge!
