Therapeutic Foster Care
Our Therapeutic Foster Care program provides long-term, out-of-home care in a home-based setting. This program is for children ages birth to 18 who have been removed from their homes by county child protection and whose needs can best be met in a more structured, safe environment.
We serve children with special needs in areas of developmental disabilities, physical limitations, medical conditions, emotional or behavioral disorders, or a combination of conditions. Placements typically last six months to one year, depending on the age of the child and other factors.
The goals of Therapeutic Foster Care include:
- Providing a safe and nurturing environment for the child
- Giving the child an opportunity to build new relationships
- Fostering optimal child development
- Introducing new environments and opportunities to the child
Children in this program are carefully matched with foster care providers that are trained, experienced and licensed through the state of Minnesota. Foster care providers are responsible for participating in the case plan with the team to make the child's experience comfortable, safe and consistent.
Payment/Funding
This program is funded through Hennepin County.
