Services for Special Needs

Mental Health Behavioral Aide / Skills Training

The Mental Health Behavioral Aides (MHBA), also known as Skills Training, program supports and treats children between the ages of 4-18 with various mental health diagnoses. The program allows for Mental Health Behavioral Aides to work with recipients on specific, individualized treatment goals that focus on the child's unique emotional and behavioral needs. An important aspect of this service is the collaboration between the MHBA and the parent(s)/guardian(s) on the child’s treatment and goal progress.

What are the Funding Sources?

Funding for Mental Health Behavioral Aides comes from Medical Assistance, Tefra or Medical Assistance PMAP’s (we currently work with Medica, UCare, and MHP PMAP’s). Recipients may also be authorized for service through County Mental Health Services, including the Children’s Mental Health Collaborative, Children and Family Services.

What are the different services that the MHBA program provides?

The goals for the clients in this program vary depending on the needs of the individuals being served, their parent or family situations, and the type of placements in which they are currently involved. Examples of goals in the individualized treatment plan may include: promoting various anger management skills and coping skills, working with a child who is suicidal on ways to keep him/her safe, and assisting a child with self esteem issues.
