Handwriting Without Tears
| We offer two classes for children who struggle with handwriting. The goal of Handwriting Without Tears is to make
legible and fluent handwriting an easy and automatic skill. Multi-sensory techniques and creation of consistent habits for
letter formation will be used to teach children writing. In addition, parents will learn techniques and activities to help
improve a child's self-confidence, pencil grip, body awareness, posture.
Both classes are led by an Occupational Therapist. |
|
Readiness Group: This group is designed for a child who is beginning to show interest in letters, coloring, or drawing activities and may
be able to recognize some letters. The child may also be experiencing overall weakness, delayed fine motor, and/or visual
motor difficulties.
Handwriting Group: In order to participate in this group, the child should have letter recognition, demonstrate a hand preference, and
be able to write most letters. Letters do not have to be legible. The appropriate candidate may have a weak or
inefficient grasp of writing utensil and/or has difficulty with letter formation, spacing, letter height, placement
on page, and/or difficulty with letter reversal.
